New Year's Eve in Istanbul can look very different depending on where you spend it. Some visitors want to be on the water as the clock strikes midnight, others prefer a long gala dinner in the Old City or a hotel ballroom with a room upstairs. These are the main ways to celebrate on 31 December, and who each one suits.
Bosphorus dinner cruises
Shared dinner cruises are the classic way to see the Bosphorus at night. You buy a ticket per person, sit at your own table in a shared dining room, and the boat runs a fixed programme of dinner, music and shows. They suit couples and small groups who want a social atmosphere at a lower cost per person. We publish shared New Year's Eve cruises on our events page once their programme and price are confirmed.
Private yacht charter
A private yacht is reserved for your group alone: no shared tables, no other guests, and the evening runs at your pace. On our private New Year's Eve yacht in Istanbul, you cruise the Bosphorus from 22:00 to 02:00 with dinner and a confirmed drinks package, for up to 15 guests depending on the yacht. Because the price is for the whole group, it often works out well for families and groups of friends.
Rooftop restaurants and Old City dining
Restaurants in Sultanahmet and Laleli host New Year's Eve gala nights from 20:00 to 03:00, with a set gala menu, unlimited local drinks, a DJ and shows. Rooftop terraces look out over the historic peninsula, while indoor and street-level dining rooms are warmer and easier to reach. Prices are per person, so they are simple to compare. Hotel gala nights
Hotel galas bring dinner, live music and often accommodation under one roof, so there is no journey home after midnight. Some hotels sell New Year's Eve only as a package with a minimum stay and a New Year's Day brunch, so check how many nights are required before you compare prices. See Istanbul hotel gala nights.
Parties and special events
Club nights and concerts run late into the morning. Line-ups and tickets are usually announced in December; we add them to our New Year's Eve events in Istanbul page once organisers confirm the details.
